  • 4 cups of Boiling Water
  • 2 drops of Lavender Essential Oil
  • 2 drops of Tea Tree Essential Oil

How to Make a Steam Inhalation

Simply heat up water up to boiling point on a stove or in an electric kettle. Remove from heat and pour the water into a large bowl. Add 3-4 drops of essential oil, cover your head and the bowl with a large bath towel, place your face above the bowl but not so close that the steam will burn your face, and inhale the hot steam for several minutes. I do up to ten minutes or until the water cools down.

Make sure you don’t burn yourself, and keep the kids and pets away from the steaming bowl. If you have a cold, a persistent cough or a sinus infection, steam inhalations can be done several times a day.

  • Colds: Eucalyptus (Eucalyptus globulus or radiata) is one of the best oils for colds; it is antiviral, antibacterial and decongestant. I use a steam facial more for medicinal reasons than as a beauty treatment. I have found this gives me the fastest relief when I have a stuffed up nose or sinus congestion.

I like to add a little but of Eucalyptus to the water and this really helps me breathe so much better. If I have a cold, I will do this a couple times a day until my cold clears up.

For years I have used a Kaz steam facial, and it still works as good today as the first time I used it.

What really helps it steam up fast is pouring a little bit of salt in the water. I can get some good steam in just a few minutes when I do this. This also has a small compartment where you can add some herbs for an herbal facial steam.

You can really be as creative as you would like to be depending on what your tastes are. When I have fresh herbs in my garden, I love to add a little bit of lemon thyme or rosemary.

I have never paid someone to give me a steam facial, or use any kind of machine. I give myself a steam facial the old fashioned way – with a sink full of hot water and a towel.

I get the water as hot as I can, fill up the sink and drape a towel over myself as I lean over the sink. If I can’t get the water as hot as I would like, I will boil some in a tea kettle, and pour that in the sink.

My favorite time to give myself a home facial steam is right before bed. Before I run the hot water I make sure my face is clean of all dirt and makeup.

I have a portable steamer that I bought on sale. It’s really great, I just put water in it and then put my face over it. It’s way more affordable than going to a spa twice a month for a steam facial.

I know I could just boil water and do it myself but the one time I did that, I almost choked because the steam was just too much. The great part about my steamer is that it lets me adjust how much steam/heat I want so it’s much more comfortable.

It’s been years since I’ve had a facial sauna! My mom used to have me do it whenever I had a cough as a kid. I didn’t really enjoy it at that time but now I realize how good it was for my cough.

What she would do was to fill a plastic container with hot water and then put some Vicks in it. The Vicks gave a nice eucalyptus scent to the steam and Vicks or eucalyptus oil is supposed to be really good for coughs anyway.

I hated staying under the steam for a long time though because it would actually make me cough like crazy. My mom said that it’s a sign that it’s working because the steam is breaking up mucus and phlegm in my lungs. I’m not sure if that was true but after one of these facials, I would feel much better and could get a good nights sleep without coughing very much.

I do a steam facial at home about once a week or more often if I’m having an acne breakout. I started doing this when I noticed that constantly washing my face with cold water caused more clogged pores and breakouts. Unfortunately, cold water doesn’t open the skin’s pores at all. So what I do after cleaning my makeup is fill a large bowl with very hot water. And then I put my head over it with a towel just like the article said. Here, we’ll show you how to make your own oils using an essential oil distiller with an easy to follow step-by-step guide.

How to Make Essential Oils Using A Distiller

Step 1: Get a High-Quality Still

How to create a steam facial with essential oilsTo properly distill essential oils in your own kitchen, you’ll need the right tools. You can find an essential oil distiller kit that contains everything you need for a few hundred dollars. We recommend using a copper essential oil distiller for the best results. Copper stills boast natural antibacterial properties that can help keep bad pathogens out of your distillate. Copper also offers even heating and helps to draw out the purest fragrance of your oils.

Step 2: Gather Plant Materials

Harvesting the plant you want to use for your essential oil is a critical step in the process. You can use rinds, petals, leaves, bark, and spices to produce essential oils.

Every plant is different so harvest times and techniques will vary depending on what type of essential oil you are trying to make. You’ll need to do plenty of research to find out the best ways to maximize your harvest. Pay attention to things like harvest season, harvest time (morning versus evening), and handling techniques. You’ll also want to check if you need to dry the plant material or if you can use it fresh to make your desired essential oil.

Whatever plants you decide to use, make sure they are organic and free from pesticides. This is especially important if you’re using an essential oil still to create food-grade oils. You can grow your own plants for essential oil distillation or source your plant materials from a reputable grower.

Step 3: Prepare the Distillation Equipment

You should thoroughly wash all of your essential oil distiller equipment each time you make new oils. This includes using new cheesecloths or filtration systems for each new batch of oils.

Step 4: Distill the Oils

We recommend using gloves, eye protection, and an apron or other protective covering when distilling oils. Always distill oils in a well-ventilated room and stop the process if you feel light-headed. Make sure to use distilled water not tap water.

Turn the boiler or heat source on and fill the distiller with the recommended amount of water for the type of essential oil you are distilling. In most cases, you’ll fill the distiller anywhere from 35 to 50 percent full. Pack the plant basket or plant column full of your plant material. Make sure to pack it in as much as you can. Essential oils are highly concentrated forms of the plants they’re derived from so it’ll take a lot of plant material to produce a normal-sized bottle of essential oil.

Secure the plant column in the distiller and connect it to the condenser coil. The condenser chamber should be cooled, if your set-up doesn’t account for that, make an ice pack to cool the condensing chamber.

As the water begins to boil, the steam rises up to the plant materials, which release vaporized water and oil. These substances make their way through the condensing chamber and then to an oil separator or extractor. During the distillation of essential oils, you’ll need to adjust the heating element or hot plate to turn down the boiling water as the oil begins to flow.

Step 5: Collecting the Oils

From the separator, you’ll need two different catching containers: one for the hydrosol or water solution and one for the essential oils. Make sure to use glass or metal containers and not plastic. The hydrosol was commonly discarded during the essential oil production process, but today, many home distillers use the hydrosol as well. For example, distilling rose petals will create a hydrosol of rose water as well as rose essential oil. Both of these substances have extensive uses and can be stored for later use.

Step 6: Storing

Essential oils should be stored in dark glass bottles or stainless steel containers to preserve their integrity. Make sure each container has an airtight lid and keep the containers in a dark, cool cabinet out of direct sunlight. Most essential oils can be kept for up to two years.

Mini self-care session aside, a steam facial soothes and hydrates skin, opens pores to gently remove dirt and impurities, and increases circulation. It also allows the skin to better absorb your favorite skin care products.

DIY steam facial

Ingredients

  • 1 cup baking soda
  • 1/2 cup citric acid
  • 7 drops Lavender essential oil
  • 4 drops German Chamomile essential oil
  • 7 drops Geranium essential oil
  • 4 drops Elemi essential oil
  • 2-3 tablespoons witch hazel
  • Small spray bottle
  • Small silicone molds, about 1 inch across
  • A pot of boiling water
  • Dried rose petals or dried lavender (optional)

Instructions

1. If you’re using dried rose petals or lavender, sprinkle it in the bottom of your silicone molds. Set aside.

2. Add 1 cup baking soda and 1/2 cup citric acid to a glass bowl and mix well with a wire whisk.

3. Add essential oils to dry ingredients. Mix until completely blended.

4. Add 2-3 tablespoons of witch hazel to a spray bottle. Spray surface of the mixture and stir. Repeat spraying and stirring until mixture resembles and feels like damp sand. You know it’s good to go when you can shape it into a ball, but it falls apart easily.

YL tip: If the mixture ends up too moist, add more baking soda and citric acid until you get the right consistency.

5. Put the mixture into silicone molds. Press firmly with the back of a spoon or your fingers. The mixture will expand, so leave a small lip (about 1/4 of the mold) at the top.

6. Allow facial steamers time to dry completely—anywhere from a few hours to a few days, depending on your home’s humidity. Pop steamers out of molds.

YL tip: If they refuse to pop, they need more time to dry!

How to use

1. Prep your skin with a little cleansing and exfoliating.

2. Bring water to a boil in a large pot.

3. Remove pot from stovetop and place it on a hot pad or towel in an area where you can comfortably lean over it. Be careful—the water’s hot!

4. Add a facial steamer to the water. Let it sit and fizz for a minute or two.

5. Place a large towel over your head and lean over the pot with your face 5-10 inches away from the water. Do not put your face closer to the water to avoid burning your skin. If things get too hot, create a vent in the towel and allow some steam to escape.

6. Do five 2-minute sessions, giving skin a 1-minute break between each. Keep the water hot by placing a lid on the pot during break time.

7. Splash your face with cool water.

8. Moisturize with your favorite serum followed by face lotion for truly glow-tastic skin.

1. In a double boiler, melt shea butter and beeswax together. After oils are melted allow them to cool slightly.

2. While shea butter mixture is melting, combine jojoba or rosehip, rose water, and aloe gel in a large glass measuring cup. Warm up the liquid in a double boiler (this will help it combine with the oil mixture).

3. Using an immersion blender or hand mixer, blend the heated aloe mixture until mixed completely (it will turn milky) and continue to blend while you stream in the melted shea butter mixture.

4. Blend for a few minutes until cream starts to emulsify and becomes thick and fluffy.

5. Add the essential oils and mix until combined.

6. Using a spatula, transfer cream into a large freezer bag or piping tube. Cut the tip and pipe into sterilized glass jars (four 2-ounce glass jars). Cap jars and store cream in fridge for up to one year.

7. Slather over face and luxuriate in the heavenly scent and natural ingredients.

Clean up tip: “Castile soap and white vinegar can really cut through the greasiness,” says Hope who fills her sink with hot water and adds either castile soap or vinegar (combining the two can cause a reaction). Hot water also helps to melt grease off pots, utensils, and your sink; ditto for a dishwasher with a steam function.

Shelf life tip: The biggest downside of “from scratch” cosmetics is shelf life. Without added synthetic preservatives (beeswax and essential oils work as natural preservatives), homemade products don’t last as long as store bought. Make sure to store cream in clean containers, keep it in the fridge (so it can last up to 1 year), and use a sanitized stick instead of dipping fingers to prolong shelf life.

Also rich in oleic acid which assists with skin cell regeneration and is softening, smoothing and moisturizing. It was proven to slow down melanin synthesis, so it’s a wonderful addition for hyperpigmented and mature skin.

Jojoba oil

Balancing, softening, soothing. Balances sebum production so great for oily skin, acne or dry skin. Anti-inflammatory, may be used to treat eczema and psoriasis. Light and well absorbed.

Squalane (olive squalane)

A much better, natural alternative to the silicones often used in commercial serums, squalane glides onto the skin and doesn’t feel oily at all. Squalane softens the skin, improves elasticity, reduces signs of aging and boosts cell regeneration. Squalane is very similar to squalene, which is produced naturally by your skin until your mid-20s and helps to moisturize and protect it. After your mid-20s it’s really useful to use olive squalane as is very similar in structure to the natural one produced by the skin and is therefore absorbed really well. It’s really lovely to use, it’s lighter than an oil and leaves the skin silky and smooth. It can be used on its own or blended with a small amount of the specialist carrier oils mentioned above. Essential oils

Frankincense

Famous for its skin preserving and regenerating qualities. A cytophylatic oil which means it aids the process of skin cell regeneration. Tonifying and rejuvenating, its one of the most important oils for improving skin tone and treating aging skin as well as reducing scar tissue. Geranium

A wonderful balancing oil it works to balance the production of sebum (the skin’s natural oil) making it suitable for dry or oily skin. What are essential oils?

According to Dr. Axe essential oils are extracted directly from the bark, flower, fruit, leaf, seed or root of a plant or tree, and just one drop can have powerful health benefits. They are typically created through the process of distillation, which separates the oil and water-based compounds of a plant by steaming.

1) DIY Vitamin C Serum for Anti-Aging

  • 1 teaspoon GMO-free vitamin C powder
  • 1 teaspoon filtered or purified water
  • 1½ tablespoons Aloe Vera gel
  • ⅛ teaspoon vitamin E oil
  • 5 drops frankincense essential oil
  • Using a bowl and a whisk, blend the vitamin C powder and filtered water.
  • Add the Aloe Vera gel. Blend again.
  • Add the vitamin E oil and frankincense. Mix all ingredients until well blended.
  • Using a funnel, transfer the serum into a small amber bottle to help reduce light exposure.
  • Apply at night, making sure to remove in the morning since it can cause sensitivity when exposed to the sun.
  • You may want to start with every other night to make sure your skin responds well. Results are usually noticeable within a few weeks up to 3 months.
  • If you have sensitive skin consider testing on a small patch of skin for the first night.

  • 2 capsules of live probiotics

Mix the ingredients together and blend with a hand blender. Then pour the mixture into a convenient bottle and store it in a cool place.

  • 1 tablespoon gelatin
  • 1 drop peppermint essential oil
  • 1 drop frankincense essential oil
  • ½ teaspoon turmeric
  • Heat 1/8 cup of water in a pan. Place the warm water in a small dish.
  • Add the peppermint essential oil. Stir.
  • Add the gelatin. Blend well.
  • Add the frankincense. Stir.
  • Add the turmeric. Stir until well blended.
  • Apply to the nose and cheek area or you may apply to the entire face and neck area. Allow it to dry, and then gently peel it off. Rinse with warm water.

  • 2 tablespoons coconut oil
  • 2 teaspoons organic raw honey
  • 4 tablespoons organic coffee grounds
  • 8 drops carrot seed oil
  • 6 drops tea tree essential oil
  • Pour the coconut oil and honey into a small bowl or jar.
  • Next, add the coffee grounds.
  • Blend the ingredients.
  • Add the carrot seed oil and tea tree oil.
  • Blend all of the ingredients together.
  • Store product in a small jar in the fridge.

5) DIY Hydrating Face Oil

  • 3 tbsp jojoba oil
  • 1 ½ tbsp argan oil
  • 2 tsp rosehip seed oil
  • 1/4 tsp Vitamin E
  • 4 drops carrot seed essential oil
  • 8 drops geranium essential oil
  • 2 oz. dark dropper bottle
  • Pour the jojoba oil into dropper bottle.
  • Add the argan oil, rosehip seed oil and vitamin E.
  • Add carrot and geranium oil.
  • Shake before use.
  • Cleanse your face
  • Apply toner.
  • Gently massage about a 1/4 to 1/2 dropper full of oil blend onto your face and neck.

With all the wonderful natural facial serums on the market today, it can be a little overwhelming choosing the correct formula with safe, non-toxic ingredients, all at a reasonable price. The good news is that it’s easy and fun to make a quality product on your own using the miracle of nature – essential oils.

When I started working with skincare formulas in 2003, one of the first products I was excited about making was an essential oil-based facial serum. My skin needs were changing, and a moisturizing oil made perfect sense for dry, maturing skin.

I decided to work with four wonderful healthy aging essential oils I had discovered: Lavender, Frankincense, Rose Geranium, and Carrot Seed.

The natural and highly effective nature of essential oils makes them perfect for skincare. When blended for their various properties and used with a carrier oil that matches your skin type, you can create a serum tailor-made for your skin.

Essential oils are the essence of plants. Hidden away in many parts of the plant, like the flowers, seeds, and roots, they are very potent chemical compounds. They can give the plant its scent, protect it from harsh conditions, and help with pollination.

The benefits of essential oils on humans are diverse and amazing. Lavender flower oil, for example, contains compounds that help soothe skin irritation and redness, while the scent reduces feelings of anxiety and stress.

The beautiful Rose essential oil is hydrating to the skin and sometimes used to treat scarring, while the scent is known to help lift depression.

There are many essential oils to choose from for specific skincare needs. I have used a myriad of different combinations but keep coming back to the tried and true blend from my very first serum.

The four essential oils used are the workhorses of skincare for mature skin, as well as being wonderfully uplifting for mind, body, and spirit.

Here’s what you’ll need:

Bottle

1 oz. amber dropper bottle. You can find those in pharmacies or online.

Base (Carrier) Oil

As a base, you can use one of the oils below or a combination of several that meet your skin’s needs:

  • Jojoba oilis my base oil of choice. It’s incredible for most skin types: it’s extremely gentle and non-irritating for sensitive skin, moisturizing for dry skin, balancing for oily skin, ideal for combination skin, and offers a barrier of protection from environmental stressors. It also helps skin glow as it delivers deep hydration.
  • Rosehip oil smooths the skin’s texture and calms redness and irritation.
  • Argan oil contains high levels of vitamin E and absorbs thoroughly into the skin leaving little oily residue.
  • Avocado oil is effective at treating age spots and sun damage, as well as helping to soothe inflammatory conditions such as blemishes and eczema.
  • Olive oil is a heavier oil and the perfect choice if your skin needs a mega-dose of hydration. Just be aware that olive oil takes longer to absorb and leaves the skin with an oily feeling. This may be desirable for extremely dry, red, itchy skin.

Essential Oils

  • Lavender essential oil is very versatile and healing. It helps reduce inflammation, kill bacteria, and clear pores. Its scent is also calming and soothing.
  • Frankincense essential oilhelps to tone and strengthen mature skin in addition to fighting bacteria and balancing oil production.
  • Rose Geranium essential oilhelps tighten the skin by reducing the appearance of fine lines, helps reduce inflammation and fight redness, and offers anti-bacterial benefits to help fight the occasional breakout. The scent is also known to be soothing and balancing.
  • Carrot seed oilis a fantastic essential oil for combination skin. It helps even the skin tone while reducing inflammation and increasing water retention.

Let’s start with a simple recipe:

  • 1 oz. Jojoba oil (or carrier oil of your choice)
  • 10 drops Lavender
  • 10 drops Frankincense
  • 10 drops Rose Geranium
  • 10 drops Carrot seed oil

Place the essential oil drops in the amber dropper bottle then fill with Jojoba/carrier oil. It’s that simple!

Use this serum morning and evening as part of your regular skincare routine. Serums work best when applied after cleansing your face. You can cleanse with Coconut Oil or a mixture of oils for enhanced hydration (we will cover this in the next article) or use your regular facial cleanser.

Essential oils will not interfere in any way with your normal skincare products.

Keep in mind that the serum is concentrated. Use only a pea-sized amount, work it into your fingertips, and apply evenly over the face without tugging or pulling.

If your skin feels tacky, reduce the amount on the next application. Your skin should feel soft, not oily. Follow with your regular moisturizer if you like.

How I use the Essential Oil for beginners Face Serum Recipe

I apply this serum every night after I wash my face. I like to concentrate on any trouble spots.

  • Lightly shake the dropper bottle of essential oil face serum
  • Place about a dime to a nickel size amount in the palm of your hand and apply to face and neck.

I’d say the 2 oz bottle last me 3-4 months. Feel free to also use this on your hands and feet too!

Instructions for making the Essential Oil Face Serum Recipe

I mixed and stored my Essential Oil Face Serum in a 2 oz dropper bottle. It makes getting just the right amount out easy.

  1. Place all essential oils listed in the recipe in the below picture in the clean dropper bottle first.
  2. Add carrier oil of your choice to just below the neck of the bottle. This will leave room for the dropper to be added and there to be no overflow of oil.
  3. Shake lightly to mix the oils.

Carrier Oil Base

The bases of this recipe are beauty powerhouses in a big way. We started with rosehip seed oil. This is a lightweight oil with antioxidant and soothing anti-inflammatory properties.

It feeds your skin the nutrients you need to combat the signs of aging. We chose it for our anti-aging serum for its non-greasy feel and its ability to increase elasticity.

Next up we had to have vitamin E oil. It’s also a powerful antioxidant that allows your body to fight the effects of free radicals and helps your skin reduce the signs of aging.

Essential Oils

Frankincense and Carrot Seed essential oils were top of our list for beautifying and supporting the health of mature skin. Because all skin is different, we designed two different recipes to try and address the needs of different skin types.

Two Different Recipes for All Skin Types

Our recipe for normal to oily skin depends on the lightweight moisture of argan oil and the delightfully moisturizing Ylang Ylang essential oil. These both play their part in the normal to oily skin serum providing balanced hydration to leave your skin radiant.

Readers with normal to dry skin will want to try the other recipe developed especially for their needs. This blend for normal to dry skin combines deeply emollient apricot kernel oil with Jasmine essential oil (essence) for a rich moisturizing serum that plumps the skin and leaves your face looking fresher than ever.

Gemstone Roller

One of the best ways to intensify the effects of this serum is with a gemstone roller. This amazing contraption can increase circulation in your face and neck and may reduce puffiness and swelling.

A gemstone roller uses a smooth stone attached to a rolling handle to gently stimulate the skin. It also helps to push the serum deep into your pores to allow the skin to better absorb the serum.How to create a steam facial with essential oils

Gemstone rollers are a whole lot less intimidating (and less painful) than the more extreme Dermarollers. For some reason, hundreds of tiny needles rolling over my face doesn’t sound appealing.

To use: Apply a few drops of serum to your face. Run the roller over your skin in an upward motion. Press firmly as you roll. Work from the center of your face outwards. Use the small end of the roller under and around the eyes. Continue rolling until the serum is absorbed into your face. You can also put it in the fridge before use for a cooling, soothing effect.

Nighttime Face Serum for Normal to Oily Skin

Ingredients

  • 2 tablespoonsrosehip seed oil
  • 1 tablespoon argan oil
  • 2 teaspoons vitamin E oil
  • 20 drops Frankincense essential oil
  • 10 drops Carrot Seed essential oil
  • 5 drops Ylang Ylang essential oil
  • 2-ounce dropper bottleand label

Directions

  • Combine all ingredients in the bottle and swirl to combine.
  • Label and enjoy!

To use: With your fingertips, apply a quarter-sized amount to the clean, dry skin on your face and neck. Take special care to avoid getting serum in your eyes, nose, and mouth.

To store: Store in a cool, dark place away from heat or direct sunlight.

Notes: Clary Sage and Cypress essential oils would be appropriate additions or substitutions in this recipe for oily skin.

Safety Note: If you are making this recipe for someone who is pregnant or breastfeeding, omit the Carrot Seed essential oil and use 30 drops of Frankincense total.

Nighttime Face Serum for Normal to Dry Skin

Ingredients

  • 2 tablespoonsrosehip seed oil

  • 2 teaspoons vitamin E oil

  • 10 drops Carrot Seed essential oil
  • 5 drops Jasmine essential oil

Blasting Acne With a Steam and Tea Tree Oil

Acne is a pain, everyone knows that. There are a number of natural treatments out there (along with a great number of decidedly non-natural ones!) that can help you to heal your acne. Dealing with acne right when you’ve got it is very helpful for not only looking much better but you’ll also reduce the likelihood of you getting acne scars afterwards. and trust me when I say they are quite a lot more annoying to have to deal with.

One of the best natural acne treatments that I know is a combination of steam and tea tree oil.

Steam. Steam is very effective at opening the pores and helping the skin to sweat. This flushes out the bacteria and the oils that cause acne in the first place. This will help your skin to be clearer. Everyone knows the importance of keeping your skin clean (especially if you’ve got acne or acne prone skin), and steaming helps to flush the skin from the inside out (the most effective way to clean the skin for sure!).

Tea Tree Oil. This essential oil from Australia is a very powerful anti-septic. It has a very strong smell (although not an unpleasant one) and stings a bit, like chemical anti-septics. Unlike the chemical ones though, tea tree oil is natural and can really help your skin. Applying it to acne that’s just been opened up by steam is a very powerful way to deal with acne.

Fill up a basin with very hot water. If your tap hot water doesn’t come out hot enough you may need to boil up a kettle and fill the sink up with that.
You can add something to the water if you like, such as lavender oil. This is so that it smells a bit nicer, nothing more then that.
Place your skin over the basin and let the steam open up your skin. Remember at all times that steam can be very dangerous and steam burns are more common then you might think. Don’t do anything crazy here.
Remain in this position for about five to ten minutes. Come away earlier if you feel it’s too much.
If you look up in the mirror your skin will have gone a lobster red color. Use a cotton bud with tea tree oil on the end to apply to your acne. It might sting a little bit, but I’ve never found it too bad.
You’ll probably want to do this treatment in the evening so that you don’t have to go around your day with a crazy red face. You may need to do it a few times to get the results you want. It may not work for you either – everyone’s skin is different and while this treatment has worked great for me and other people, it might be a different story for you.

I think the combination of steam and tea tree oil is a very effective acne treatment, and one that you should consider trying. Just remember to use caution – as steam can be dangerous.

How to create a steam facial with essential oils

  1. To clean fresh fruit, add 2-3 drops of Lemon Essential Oi l to a bowl of cool water and cover entire fruit. Can also be added to a spray bottle . Rinse the fruit and enjoy!
  2. Add 10 drops of Germ Fighter Synergy to 8 oz. of witch hazel or purified water in a spray bottle and use as a disinfectant for surfaces and the air. Store for up to 2 weeks in the fridge.
  3. Add a few drops of Lavender Essential Oil to purified water in a spray bottle to use an air freshener. For Bathroom purposes, add Lemon or Plant Therapy’s Citrus Burst Synergy . Store for up to 2 weeks in the fridge.
  4. For General purpose cleaning, add 2 cups of white vinegar and 1/8 cup of baking soda to 2 cups of purified water. Then add 6 drops of each of the following: Tea Tree , Lemon and Lavender Essential oils.
  5. To keep your car smelling good, add a drop of your favorite essential oil to Plant Therapy’s Diffuse On The Move and enjoy your favorite scent every time you are in your car!
  6. To dispel household cooking odors, add 5-10 drops of Orange Sweet Essential Oil to a pan of simmering water. (Great option if you do not own a diffuser !)
  7. To deodorize your carpet, add a few drops of Lavender, Lemon , Peppermint , or your favorite essential oil to a small box of baking soda. Sprinkle onto the carpet, let sit for about an hour and vacuum. Another great option is Germ Fighter or KidSafe® Germ Destroyer !
  8. Facial Scrub- Take 2 – 3 teaspoons raw oats and crush into smaller bits either by hand or in a grinder. Mix the dry oats with pure honey, 1/4 teaspoon of apple cider vinegar and 1/4 teaspoon of Grapeseed Carrier Oil until it forms a smooth mixture. Add more honey as needed. Then add 1 drop of Basil Essential Oil to the mixture. For problem skin, you can replace the Basil with Tea Tree or Plant Therapy’s Zit Fighter Synergy .
  9. For a neck tension, as soon as you feel it coming on, rub Peppermint Essential Oil or Plant Therapy’s Tension Relief Synergy or KidSafe® Tension Tamer to your temples, back of the neck or wherever the tension is coming on. You can also use Plant Therapy’s personal aromatherapy inhalers.
  10. Facial Moisturizer- Fill a 1 oz bottle almost full with your favorite carrier oil : Rosehip Carrier Oil is good for aging skin and sun damaged skin, Evening Primrose Carrier Oil is good for dry skin, and Fractionated Coconut Oil is your overall face care oil. Add 1-3 drops of your favorite facial essential oil : Lavender is good for all skin types, Tea Tree is good for blemishes, Peppermint is good for all skin types but will leave a cooling effect, Plant Therapy’s Anti Age Synergy is good for aging. Apply a dime size amount to skin after washing.
  11. Shampoo- 8 oz bottle of unscented shampoo
  • Oily hair: Add 15 drops of Bergamot , 20 drops of Lemon, 10 drops of Cypress and 10 drops of Clary Sage . Mix well.
  • Dry hair: Add 30 drops of Lavender , 20 drops of Geranium Egyptian and 20 drops of Frankincense Serrata. Mix well.
  • Hair loss: Add 20 drops of Cedarwood Atlantica , 30 drops of Rosemary 1,8-Cineole , and 30 drops of Lavender. Mix well.
  1. Bath salts- Mix 2 cups of Pink Himalayan Salt , 1/2 cup of your favorite carrier oil and 10-15 drops of one of the following essential oils: Lavender , Relax , Energy , Rapid Relief , KidSafe® Nighty Night or your favorite essential oil .
  1. Inhale Plant Therapy’s Munchy Stop to help curb the appetite and lessen the impulse to overeat.
  2. Perfume- Add 1-5 drops of essential oil to 1/4 teaspoon of carrier oil and dab onto your wrist and neck. Some great essential oils to try are Plant Therapy’s Tranquil Synergy and Sandalwood Australian or Patchouli for men’s cologne.
  3. For seasonal sniffles, put a couple drops of Plant Therapy’s Clear Again Synergy or KidSafe® Sneezy Stop in a hanky and inhale several times a day. Continue as needed during allergy season. You can also try Plant Therapy’s personal aromatherapy inhalers .
  4. For minor burns and scrapes, put 20 drops of Lavender or Tea Tree Essential Oil into a 4 oz spray bottle with Fractionated Coconut Oil and spray directly on the wound.
  5. For sleeping concerns, add 1-3 drops of Plant Therapy’s Sleep Aid Synergy to a cotton pad and put next to pillow while sleeping. Can also use Clary Sage or Frankincense . For young children use Calming the Child , Nighty Night or Sweet Dreams .
  6. To help with respiratory problems, diffuse Plant Therapy’s Respir Aid Synergy or KidSafe® Sniffle Stopper into the air. You can also add 1-4 drops to a palm full of your favorite carrier oil and apply to the chest.
  7. Smelly shoes? Add Deodorizing Synergy or KidSafe® Odor Zapper to some baking soda and sprinkle in shoe. Also, can add to a cotton pad and put a cotton pad in shoe.
  8. Test at school or a big presentation at work? Carry Plant Therapy’s Clarity Synergy or Rosemary (or KidSafe® A+ Attention ) in your purse/bag and sniff all morning and during. Will help enhance mental focus. Use Plant Therapy’s personal aromatherapy inhalers for a convenient way to carry your favorite essential oils with you on the go!
  9. For a 2 ingredients DIY lotion, combine 2 ounces of Shea Butter with 2 ounces of Organic Sunflower Oil and mix well. Add 12-16 drops of your favorite essential oils for scent. Enjoy!
  10. For a relaxing massage, mix 5 tsp of your favorite carrier oi l and 2 drops of each of Lavender , Chamomile Roman , Clary Sage and Geranium Egyptian . You can also add Plant Therapy’s Relax Synergy .
  11. For a pedicure, mix 5 tsp of your favorite carrier oi l to 10 drops of Peppermint Essential Oil .
  12. Dry skin- Mix a palm full of Evening Primrose Carrier Oi l or Fractionated Coconut Oil with 2-5 drops of Plant Therapy’s Soft Skin Synergy or KidSafe® Skin Soother . Apply to problem areas when needed.
  13. To get the mildew smell out of towels add 1 cup of vinegar, ½ cup of baking soda and 10 drops of Tea Tree Essential Oi l to the washing machine. Wash towels on high heat.
