For the text on each page, start by copying and pasting the text from your resume—but then think of ways to style or bulk it up to look a little nicer on the web. Writing a resume in English can be very different than in your own language. The first and most important step is to take the time to prepare your materials thoroughly. Taking notes on your career, education, and other accomplishments and skills will ensure that you can shape your resume to a wide variety of professional opportunities. This is a moderately difficult task that may take around two hours.

Steps to Writing Your Resume

  1. First, take notes on your work experience — both paid and unpaid, full time and part-time. Write down your responsibilities, job title, and company information. Include everything!
  2. Take notes on your education. Include degree or certificates, major or course emphasis, school names, and courses relevant to career objectives.
  3. Take notes on other accomplishments. Include membership in organizations, military service, and any other special accomplishments.
  4. From the notes, choose which skills are transferable (skills that are similar) to the job you are applying for — these are the most important points for your resume.
  5. Begin resume by writing your full name, address, telephone number, fax, and email at the top of the resume.
  6. Write an objective. The objective is a short sentence describing what type of work you hope to obtain.
  7. Begin work experience with your most recent job. Include the company specifics and your responsibilities — focus on the skills you have identified as transferable.
  8. Continue to list all of your work experience job by job progressing backward in time. Remember to focus on skills that are transferable.
  9. Summarize your education, including important facts (degree type, specific courses studied) that are applicable to the job you are applying for.
  10. Include other relevant information such as languages spoken, computer programming knowledge, etc. under the heading ‘Additional Skills.’ Be ready to speak about your skills in the interview.
  11. Finish with the phrase: References: Available upon request.
  12. Your entire resume should ideally not be any longer than one page. If you have had a number of years of experience specific to the job you are applying for, two pages are also acceptable.
  13. Spacing: Separate each category (i.e. Work Experience, Objective, Education, etc.) with an empty line to improve readability.
  14. Make sure to read your resume carefully to check grammar, spelling, etc.
  15. Prepare thoroughly with your resume for the job interview. It’s best to get as much job interviewing practice as possible.

More Tips for Writing a Solid Resume

  • Use dynamic action verbs such as accomplished, collaborated, encouraged, established, facilitated, founded, managed, etc.
  • Do not use the subject ‘I’, use tenses in the past, except for your present job. Example: Conducted routine inspections of on-site equipment.
  • Place your work experience before your education. In English speaking countries, especially in the United States, work experience is the most important factor in hiring.
  • Ask for permission to use someone as a referencebefore you interview for a position. It’s also a good idea to let your references know that you will be interviewing if you haven’t interviewed for a while. In this way, references will be in the loop if a potential employer calls or sends an email for further information.
  • Don’t include the contact information of your references on your resume. The phrase available upon request will suffice.
  • Use a thesaurus to help you improve work-related vocabulary and eliminate unnecessary repetition.

Here’s an example resume following the simple outline above. Notice how work experience uses shortened sentences in the past without a subject. This style is more common than repeating ‘I.’

Quickly format text with styles

As you type, you’ll notice that the text is already formatted. Our resume contains predefined paragraph styles — styles save various formatting attributes and make it a snap to change the appearance of text in your document.

Note: Normally, a new document starts out with one default style. You can create additional styles to keep track of your text formatting.

What should go on a college resume?

Any of the sections below could appear on your resume for college applications. Pick an assortment that works for you!

When should you submit a resume to colleges?

Some colleges and scholarship committees request or recommend that you include a high school resume with your application materials. Tips for Composing Your College Admissions Resume

1. Keep it concise.

Pare down the activities you showcase to the most brag-worthy and most representative of you as a candidate. Do colleges need to know that you were on the field hockey team for one semester in Grade 9? Probably not. The standard rule of thumb is to stick to one or two pages.

2. Focus on depth and length of commitment.

When deciding which activities and accomplishments make the cut, keep in mind that colleges would much rather see you excited about one or two key experiences than sporadic involvement in 20 clubs. If having an after-school job limited your ability to participate in clubs or sports, make sure your resume plays up your work responsibilities, training, and on-the-job skills.

3. Provide detail whenever possible.

The details are what set a resume apart from a list of extracurriculars on a standard college application. For example, when describing your involvement in the French Club make sure to include:

  • your role
  • school years/hours per week you participated
  • specific contributions (e.g. “Organized a successful after-school film series to introduce our community to French cinema and culture” )
  • leadership roles (e.g. “Treasurer, Grade 12” )
  • unique details that will make you stand out

4. Highlight things you weren’t able to write about in your college essays or short answers.

Use your high school resume to show colleges something new. If your devotion to photography didn’t make it on the application but is a big part of who you are, then showcase your photography cred on your resume.

5. Formatting is key.

Make your resume easy to scan. Divide information into sections with clear headings, bulleted lists, and a consistent font. Use a system of organization that works for you. (Chronological, by importance of activity, or by time commitment are a few options.) Don’t forget to proofread!

6. Be honest and accurate.

Colleges know how to spot inconsistencies in your application materials, and they won’t hesitate to call your counselor to verify information that doesn’t seem right. So don’t tell them that you have practice for the school play for 30 hours per week—unless drama club is somehow your full-time job!

Most recruiters in Dubai refer to a resume or CV interchangeably. Since CV is more commonly used, this article will use the same terminology.

Length of Your CV

Employers in Dubai look for elaborate CVs. Your CV should be 2 pages and include pertinent information, as discussed later in this article. If you are applying for a senior-level position or if the circumstances warrant, you can extend your resume to 3 pages. Unlike in some parts of the world, notably the US, a one-page CV is probably too short.

Your Photo

You must include a photo on the top right-hand side of the first page of your CV. A professional passport size photograph with a grey or blue solid background is preferred. Make sure that you look professional and do not reveal your skin. Dubai is a Muslim country and their culture must be respected.

Contact Information and Personal Details

On the top left hand side of the first page of your CV, indicate your:

  • Name in full (as shown in your passport)
  • Phone number with your country code
  • Active email address
  • LinkedIn ID

Below your contact information, address the following:

  • Your gender
  • Your nationality
  • Your date of birth
  • Languages you are proficient in (English and Arabic are the languages in which business is conducted, but Hindi and Urdu are widely spoken)
  • Your current location
  • Your marital status and number of dependents (most companies provide free family accommodation, medical insurance coverage, and some even include your children’s educational expenses as part of your compensation package)
  • Your passport number and the expiry date
  • Your current visa status
  • Details of your driving license (if you hold a valid international driving license, that is a plus)

Profile Snapshot

Include a profile section highlighting your key strengths and value proposition.

Education

List your education in reverse chronological order. State the name of the degree in full (no abbreviations please), the university, the country, and the year you graduated. Make sure to be clear. The recruiter may not be familiar with the education system where you come from.

Employment Details

State your employment history in reverse chronological order. For each position, state your period of employment, the name of the company and the position title. Then, state your responsibilities and accomplishments.

Training, Workshops and IT Skills

Mention if you received training on the job and your IT qualifications.

Instead of using \photo command you can use the following command

Insert the following code before your \begin command

and before your use, this command make sure you make a folder named images in the same folder of your pc, where you are working with the tex file. keep your image in this folder, copy the name of your image. After that, you can use the following command anywhere in your code-

PS: In future, try to provide a sample of your code (minimum number of lines in code, and point out specific part of the code where your problem mainly is) for asking your problem (so that others can understand the problem by running it in their own pc)

    At Abroad Experience, we look at A LOT of CVS every single day and we have seen some truly astounding choices for the accompanying CV photos of applicants. From tanned girls in strapless tops posed on a beach with beers in their hands to one expressionless man in a business suit staring up at us from the seat of a comically tiny red and yellow child’s tricycle, we have truly seen it all!

    The choice of your profile photo is a deceptively important feature of your CV. It is what will attract the eye of recruiters first and you really want their first thought to be “This person looks like they’d fit right in at our company,” and not “Is s/he joking?”

    What follows are some helpful tips for framing your perfect CV photo:

    Frame from the waist up.

    Profile photos should be of your profile. Full body shots are unnecessary and fill up valuable space on your CV better used for listing your qualifications!

    Dress professionally.

    This means no tank tops, no strapless clothing, no t-shirts (especially with inappropriate messages or slogans), no hats and minimal jewellery. A good rule of thumb is a clean dress shirt, with or without a suit jacket.

    Hair and makeup should be neutral.

    No one is asking you to dye your blue hair back to brown – you do you! – but perhaps you can pull it back or minimalize it in the photo so that it doesn’t detract from your winning smile! Makeup should, likewise, be kept at an “at the office” level rather than a “Saturday night out with friends” level.
    Keep facial expressions and hand gestures neutral. This means no exaggerated bug-eyes, no fish puckering of the mouth, no squinting and no peace or gang signs. While facing the camera, imagine that you are walking into a face to face interview for your dream job. How would you smile? Take that

    Avoid props.

    Think of the man on the tricycle and avoid props. This also goes for alcoholic beverages or cigarettes (yes, we’ve seen it). If there’s a plant or an (appropriate) painting in the background, that’s totally fine! Otherwise, just your charming face in front of a white background will suffice.

    Think “passport photo,” not “Facebook selfie”.

    Angle the photo so that you are facing straight on and directing your gaze one degree above your camera lens. Do not take CV photos from the awkward angles you might use for an Instagram post: it is probably very flattering with an Amaro filter, but on a CV it will only raise eyebrows.

    Ask someone to help.

    It can be helpful to ask someone else to step in and take your photo while you concentrate on standing up straight and smiling in such a way that reads “Hire me!”

    And there you have it. With only these seven guidelines, you’re on your way to taking the perfect CV photo that will grab the attention of your audience in all the right ways.

    Short, powerful bio is what you need to present yourself in a professional manner. Today I want to share with you a few tips on how to write your own bio, which you can use on your social media and model resume.

    A good bio should communicate who you are, what you do and most importantly how you can help others. This is a key part of a well written bio, because it moves the focus from you to the person who reads it.

    Let’s look at the bio structure, it should consist of the following:

    WHO: your name, your profession and passion
    WHAT: your experience in that profession to date (e.g. genres, publications)
    HOW: who you work with
    WHERE: locations
    WHY: what makes you unique, what is your characteristic, what is your working style

    Call to action: it is a important to include a call to action to encourage a contact with you.

    2X2 PICTURE IN MICROSOFT WORD – In this article, we will learn how to create a 2×2 picture for important documents using Microsoft Word.

    A 2×2 photo is one of the basic requirements for most of our official documents. Here are the step-by-step ways on how to create your own 2×2 photo.

    First, you need to select a formal photo that you want to use. Take note that the photo must be somewhat formal or presentable to be put on an official document.

    Next, right-click on your photo and select copy. Afterwards, open your Microsoft Word and create a blank document. Then, right-click on the blank page and select paste.

    The photo should now be on the blank page of the Microsoft Word document.

    There are a number of factors that go into the optimal ATS resume template or format. For example, many ATS don’t know how to handle tables or images. Correctly sequencing your work experience information increases parsing accuracy; docx and pdf file types work better than others.

    7 ATS resume formatting tips

    1. Use long-form and acronym versions of keywords.

    Recruiters and hiring managers may search by keywords when looking for candidates. Some ATS will only return exact keyword match results, which means that if you included the term “Search Engine Optimization” without its acronym counterpart, your profile may not appear in a recruiter’s search for the term “SEO.”

    2. Use a chronological or hybrid resume format.

    Formats that deemphasize work history, like the functional resume format, don’t work well for applicant tracking systems that count on more traditional reverse-chronological formatting to understand an applicant’s experience. Recruiters are also most familiar with chronological and hybrid resume formats.

    3. Don’t use tables or columns.

    Even though tables and columns can improve readability for human readers, they may cause parsing errors in the ATS.

    4. Use a screen-friendly, traditional Font.

    For readability, it’s best to use a traditional serif or sans serif font. Some ATS will automatically change unfamiliar fonts which can alter the design of your resume.

    5. Don’t use headers or footers.

    The information in headers and footers may get lost or cause parsing errors inside and ATS.

    6. Use standard resume section headings.

    Section headers like “Where I’ve Been” in place of “Work Experience” may confuse applicant tracking systems, causing them to organize information incorrectly.

    7. Save your file as a .docx or PDF if possible

    A docx file or .pdf file is most compatible with ATS. Some people prefer PDFs because their formatting cannot be broken in this format.

    ID photos are often required when applying for jobs, getting a passport, opening a bank account, and other transactions. You can go the traditional route and visit a photo studio to have your ID picture taken. In fact, it’s highly recommended to have a photography studio take your ID picture, as it ensures that your photo is done in a professional manner.

    The alternative, if you don’t have the time and motivation to visit a photography studio, is to make the ID photo yourself. You can take a picture on your smartphone or digital camera, and then edit it on your computer to make it look like a real ID photo.

    Turning your selfie picture into a high-quality ID photo can be quite challenging, but with the right tools and skills, anyone can do it. In this article, we’ll teach you how to make a 2×2 picture in Microsoft Word, which you can then print and attach it to your official documents.

    What is the 2×2 Picture Size?

    These are the exact dimensions of the 2×2 picture:

    • The 2×2 picture size in inches is 2″ x 2″.
    • The 2×2 picture size in centimeters (cm) is 5.08 cm x 5.08 cm.
    • The 2×2 picture size in millimeters (mm) is 50.8 mm x 50.8 mm.
    • The 2×2 picture size in pixels is 600 x 600 pixels at 300 DPI.

    How to Make a 2×2 Picture in Microsoft Word

    Although photos are better edited with Adobe Photoshop or any graphics editor software, Microsoft Word can still do a pretty good job.

    First, open Microsoft Word and create a new document. Click the Insert tab and then click Pictures.

    Select the photo that you want to turn into a 2×2 picture. Click the Insert button to insert the picture into your Word document.

    You can also copy the picture (Ctrl + C) and paste it into your Word document (Ctrl + V).

    Depending on the size of the photo, it will take some time for the picture to appear in your Word document.

    The next step is to click the Crop button under the Format tab. The Format menu contains several image editing options such as cropping, resizing, removing the background, and others. The Format menu can be activated by double-clicking the photo in your document.

    After clicking Crop, select Aspect Ratio and then 1:1. This ensures that the edited photo will always have a square shape.

    You have now activated the cropping feature. You will notice a square canvas covering the photo. Everything outside the square canvas will be cut out of the photo after cropping.

    You can adjust the crop by moving the picture around or by resizing the canvas. You can move the picture around by dragging it with your mouse. To resize the canvas, move the cursor to the black line on the edge of the canvas and then drag it around.

    Once you’re satisfied with the appearance of the photo, it’s time to resize it to the 2×2 picture size.

    On the Format menu and right next to the Crop button, you will see the height and width of the picture. Change both sizes to 5.08 cm.

    Your photo has now been resized. Complete the cropping by clicking the Crop button once more, or simply click anywhere outside the photo.

    That’s it! You have made a 2×2 picture using Microsoft Word. You may save the picture to your computer by right-clicking the photo and selecting Save as Picture. You can also print your new 2×2 picture; just select File > Print or hit Ctrl + P.
