Make a Fence in Minecraft (2022)

We are covering various aspects related to fences in Minecraft, including their types, material required, and more. You can use the table below to skip directly to the crafting process.

What is a Fence in Minecraft

The fence is one of the many barrier blocks in Minecraft. It serves a great purpose in helping players bring their best Minecraft house ideas to life. But unlike regular blocks, fences behave in a unique manner. If you place it without any blocks around it, the fence acts like a stick that’s stabbed into the ground. But with other fences or blocks around it, the fence changes its shape to get attached to them.

When it comes to mob interaction, neither the player nor any mob can jump above the fence. But you can see through it, thanks to the gaps in its design. With such features, fences make up for a great way to trap mobs while monitoring them.

Types of Fences You Can Make in Minecraft

Depending upon the type of block you use, you can make 10 different types of fences in Minecraft:

  • Oak
  • Spruce
  • birch
  • jungle
  • Dark Oak
  • mangrove
  • Acacia
  • crimson
  • warped
  • Nether Brick

Other than the Nether brick fences, all the other fences are made out of some kind of wood in the game. Moreover, because the crimson, warped, and nether brick fences are from the Nether dimension, they don’t catch fire. It is also worth pointing out that Nether brick fences don’t attach themselves to other fences. Meanwhile, you can freely connect wooden fences (of any type) with each other.

How to craft a fence in minecraft

Fence in Minecraft is a useful material. Not only can it be used to section off areas of a base or village, but it’s surprisingly versatile. You can use it to add decoration to a walking path. For example, try stacking multiple fences ontop of each other and placing Glowstone blocks on top for a nice lamp. Fence in Minecraft can also be used in constructing buildings to add accents and even to build unique looking walls.

If you need to keep your farm or base organized, it’s really helpful to have a steady supply of fence in Minecraft. The wooden material can also block off mobs from wandering around and even slow down mobs trying to attack you. And even though you can see through them, they cannot be jumped over from blocks the same level as a fence.

You can find a fence in Minecraft scattered around the world, as it’s placed at worldgen. The simple wooden bits spawn in mineshafts, library rooms of strongholds, shipwrecks, certain villages, and mansions too. You can also craft your own too, which is much easier than hunting it down.

You can build the fence out of any whole wood planks and sticks. The type has to match between the two. Oak, spruce, birch, jungle, acacia, and dark oak wooden planks can all be used to make the item. So you cannot use a mix of oak and spruce for example. And you can even use Nether Brick. Nether fences can also be found in nether fortresses.

To craft fence in Minecraft you will need four matching wooden planks/nether brick blocks and two sticks/nether bricks. Open up the crafting grid in any table and insert the two bottom rows with planks/nether brick blocks in the outermost four columns. Place the two sticks/nether bricks into the innermost two columns on this same set of rows. Check out the image below for an example.

Regardless of which method you use, you will get multiple fence blocks per craft. Wooden fence yields six blocks per craft. Nether fences yield three blocks per craft. And remember, you can stack entire stacks of the raw resources into the crafting table and shift-click to speed up crafting in batches.

Wooden fences can be broken with any tool, although an ax will do it the fastest. With the nether fence, you will need a pickaxe to break it down and pick it up, just like any other mineral or rock block. Not using a pickaxe means you lose the nether fence.

Fences in Minecraft are blocks used regularly to separate sections, that is, to divide the places where they are placed. Used mainly thanks to the benefits that they offer us with respect to security since they prevent the passage of creatures that may be in the surroundings, protecting the space that is in the internal section. Crafting Fences in Minecraft

To make Fences in Minecraft, we will need sticks and wooden planks. As you can see, both elements are obtained by cutting down trees. We will carry an ax and beat the trees until they give us the tree trunks, 3 to 4 units each. We go to the work table and we will place the wooden logs and we will turn them into wooden planks. We will get 4 of each log.

Once we have obtained the planks, we already have some of the necessary elements, now we will create the sticks, and for this we need some wooden planks. We will place the wooden planks in the crafting table slots like this and create the sticks.

We have created the sticks. We can create fences. We will use the crafting table again and we will place both elements in the following way: We will obtain 3 Fences, which will then be multiplied depending on how many we need.

Sticks are made of wood in Minecraft, and they’re essential building materials you’ll find in the game. You’ll need a good stockpile of sticks at any given time, especially if you want to go spelunking or mining, as sticks are required for both torches and pickaxes, in addition to dozens of other vital crafts.

These instructions apply to Minecraft on all platforms, including Java Edition on PC and Bedrock Edition on PC and consoles.

    Materials Required to Make Sticks

To make sticks in Minecraft, you need wood logs, which come from trees. Each type of tree drops a corresponding kind of log, which you can turn into planks. Those planks then turn into sticks. It takes two planks to make four sticks.

Unlike planks, which match the type of logs, there’s only one type of stick. Sticks made of different kinds of wood are always just regular sticks.

What Can You Do With Sticks in Minecraft?

Sticks are one of the most critical crafting materials in Minecraft, as you use them for tons of different recipes. The first thing to think about is using some sticks to make tools, specifically an axe so that you can harvest more wood to make more sticks without the slow process of punching. It would help if you also kept a ready supply of them on hand to make torches, which are vital to surviving in Minecraft, both to light your way and to prevent hostile mobs like creepers from spawning in your house or base.

For example, here’s how to use sticks to make an axe in Minecraft:

Place four planks in your crafting interface to make a Crafting Table.

Place the Crafting Table on the ground.

How to craft a fence in minecraft

Place two sticks and three planks in your crafting table interface.

How to craft a fence in minecraft

Place the axe in your inventory, and use it to chop trees instead of punching with your fists.

How to craft a fence in minecraft

You can then use sticks to make a pickaxe, mine for ore, make improved axes, pickaxes, and other tools, and continue progressing through the game.

I’m on survival and so far I’ve had no problems but as soon as I try and craft a fence I get nothing.

This datapack will allow you to get some use from your Fences, Walls, or Gates you no longer need . Just put one Fence or Gate anywhere into the crafting window, and get back some of your materials you used to produce the item. Walls need 2 of the same type in any shape.
    Here’s what you get:

      • 1x any wooden Fence –> 1x Wood Plank of corresponding type
      • 1x any wooden Fence Gate –> 1x Wood Plank of corresponding type
      • 1x Nether Brick Fence –> 2x Nether Brick
      • 4x any Wall –> 3x stone block of corresponding type (e.g. 4x Cobblestone Wall –> 3x Cobblestone)

Be aware that by doing this you lose some materials, so you can’t use this to save inventory space!

You can choose if you want to use all Fences+Walls+Gates or only one/two of them, e.g. if you only want to use the Walls portion of the datapack.

    Installation:

    1. Download this datapack
    2. Put the zip file into your datapacks folder in “%appdata%\.minecraft\saves\(name_of_your_world)\datapacks”
    3. If you don’t want to use any part of the datapack, just delete the folder you don’t want in the zip file in “Reverse Craft – Slabs & Stairs\data\reversecraft\recipes\”
    4. Done

Villagers are mobs in Minecraft that are harmless. They have different outfits according to their professions. They exist in every village in all the biomes. Like any other mob in the game, they are bound by the code. For example, players can trade with them using emeralds and control them by providing the necessary environment. But can they open gates?

Villagers cannot open the gates in Minecraft. They can open doors using their not-so-advanced AI. Also, they can’t open trapdoors, fence gates, and doors made of iron. They can close the doors at night for sleeping or in case of rain for taking shelter.

There are various techniques to control the action of the villagers. Players can give them jobs inside the village. Create boundaries or workstations for them. Players can even change their jobs as well. But some villagers like nitwit just roam around and do nothing. They are different from unemployed villagers.

To give them jobs a block is placed near any villager and after some time they acquire the job related to that block. But in many cases, it becomes hard to give them jobs if the village is large and open. Then the villagers wander off to other places without taking the jobs. To solve this problem the use of fences and gates is suggested.

Villagers do not despawn anywhere in the village periphery or within 32 blocks of the village. Although a villager outside the village boundary tends to forget their village if they remain more than 6 seconds away from the boundary. Villagers can be controlled by the players by putting fence gates or trapdoors, as they cannot change open the gates.

To give them jobs, create a boundary or a workstation and close the area. For your movement use a gate or an iron door in one or two places on the boundary wall.

What is the difference between a gate and a door in Minecraft?

    Doors in Minecraft

Doors act as an obstruction and path for various structures and boundaries. The doors can be opened with a hand or a Redstone. Villagers usually sleep at night on the bed. If the beds are not available, they just stand inside the structure till morning. To enter any structure, a villager can open and close the doors. There are a variety of doors available in Minecraft that can be crafted using various materials.

    Fence gates in Minecraft

Fence gates like doors are used for making a barrier. They can also be used for making fences to keep various mobs captured. A fence gate requires a player to use a hand or the Redstone to open them. The fence can be used to control the environment of the villagers to give them jobs or breed them to increase the population of any village.

Fence gates help in keeping the mob out. Anything inside the fence gates is not detectable unless they make any sound. A great way to keep the zombies away.

    Will villagers open fence gates?

No, the villagers cannot open the fence gates. Therefore fence gates or fences can be used to control their surroundings and make them trade with any player. But sometimes it can be hard to enter the fence without breaking it, and if you create a door villagers can move outside the fence.

    Can villagers open iron doors?

No, the villagers cannot open the iron doors. Iron doors prove to be a great way to contain zombie villagers and turn them into normal villagers with a job. These zombies are created when a zombie bites a villager or with natural spawning.

How to make an iron door?

To make iron door players require an iron ingot. 6 iron ingots are required to craft one iron door. Collect iron ores and smelt them to create iron ingots. The other way to get an iron ingot is by searching the villages and temples. Chests are also a source of iron ingots. If all these methods won’t work, then search for zombies, iron golems, and husks. Iron golems can give you three to five iron ingots after you kill them. Zombies have very little chance of dropping an iron ingot.

How can villagers open doors in Minecraft?

Villagers can open any wooden door that is present inside the world of Minecraft. To make them open other doors you need to put an opening mechanism near the doors. Blocks can be placed outside the doors for pressure mechanisms. Once a villager comes near the door and steps on these blocks, the door opens.

How to stop villagers from opening the doors?

Sometimes it becomes tricky to contain the villagers, and once contained in an area, it’s very hard to let them go. To tackle this situation there can be doors with the mechanism to open their place inside the premises. This way when villagers are protected from outside threats and can easily open the doors whenever needed.

Villagers cannot open the fence doors and iron doors. Therefore crafting the iron doors to contain them is not a bad idea. Creating a door that uses Redstone to open can also solve this problem.

To flourish a village and increase the population the villagers need to be contained. Doors with a button mechanism are best suited for this purpose. Villagers cannot use the button to open the doors, only players can do so.

How to craft a door with a Redstone power mechanism?

Redstone powder mechanism helps players to unlock the doors without letting in the villagers. At night time it’s hard to keep the villagers out of your house. They search and acquire any bed they find near them.

Redstone for making Redstone powder mechanism doors can be acquired from crafting, smelting, mob loot, chest loot, and last but not least trading. Redstone wire is used in the doors because of its transmitting power capability. This is the reason for the door opening and closing mechanism using the Redstone power in construction.

How to make a fence or gate in Minecraft. Making a fence or gate in Minecraft is possible in just a few steps. The game, which has several blocks with curious characteristics, offers a type of block that, if used correctly, is one of the few blocks with an unusual height limit, made especially for block the passage of enemies or animals.

Fences can be produced joining four wooden blocks to two beams on a bench. By placing a fence block alone, it takes on the appearance of a post and can even be stacked for decorative purposes. Only when the player places a second block aside does a close-up structure begin to form.

It is important to say that different types of wood produce different types of fences, each with its own look. All of them, however, manage to connect with each other.

The height of the fences, although visually it looks like a block, it is actually a block and a half. Therefore, players and creatures cannot cross it. When stacked, they always occupy the same number of blocks, with another half block on top. Two fences are two and a half blocks high, as are three and a half blocks high. Finally, it is worth saying that not all animals find a real obstacle in the fences. Foxes, for example, are especially good at jumping on them.

From ik4, we show you below how to create fences and gates in Minecraft, available on Xbox One, PlayStation 4 (PS4), PlayStation 5 (PS5) Nintendo Switch and PC, with mobile version for Android and iPhone (iOS).

    4. Interact with a fence while transporting an animal or a boat, using a rope to tie them.
    5. Use fences with flat objects on top to create tables or create various decorative elements.

How to make a door in Minecraft

To facilitate access to the fenced area, it is possible create a Door, which is basically a fence joint that functions as a gate. Can be opened or closed with the button to interact. To create it, you must use four sticks and two wooden blocks. Like the fences, the doors change their appearance depending on the wood used. For some reason, there is no connection limitation to the Nether brick fence, as wooden doors usually connect to it.

How to save the animals inside the fences

Fences and walls can create spaces to store your content, which makes them essential for farms. Usually, animals disappear in Minecraft when the player is away. However, if they are inside a fence, this will not happen. So that the fence counts as a closed place, all blocks must be connected, even if there is a Door and its internal area must have a maximum of 20 × 20 blocks. More than that, the game considers that they are in open spaces and therefore can disappear.

This has been it! We hope this article has been useful to you. If you now want to learn how to make a fence or gate, continue browsing ik4.es.

Fence gates are small doors, usually used in combination with fences, allowing easy access to the other side of fences without having to place a big door next to it. Fences can be activated with redstone or other switches, or by simply clicking on it, like you would on a wooden door. A powered fence gate will open, when the power is turned off, the gate will close again.

Like fences, fence gates count as 1.5 blocks high when players and mobs come into contact with it, preventing players and most mobs from jumping over it. Fence gates are created with 2 wooden planks and 4 sticks and are currently only available in 1 colour. There are no Nether brick fence gates.

    Fence Gate Placement

Fences will always face the player when placed and clicking it to open it will make the doors face away from you. Doors opened with redstone will always face the same direction, which is either south or east. Fence gates cannot be placed directly on top of each other, if you do want them stacked, place the top one on a block first, then remove the block and place the bottom one. You will still have to open both doors individually.

Paintings can be placed on blocks next to the doors, which will cover the doors if the painting is big enough, which basically creaties a secret door. It’s possible to open and close the gates without the painting fall off.

    Other Fence Gate Interaction

Fence gates will allow boats and water to pass through, but will prevent lava and water from flowing through it. Unlike wooden doors, fence gates cannot be opened by villagers or destroyed by zombies, making them a safer choice.

I am not really sure if I understand what you want to achieve with your code but I would do something like this:

Create two prefabs, one with just the vertical stick (like in your fence.png picture) and then one prefab with the horizontal lines. If you place a fence down next to another fence piece, you check if it is above or under that fence piece. If so, you don’t have to do anyhting because they will align properly. If it is to some of the sides of the fence you check which side and then place the horizontal stick prefab on that side of the first fence object.

So if I have one fence piece placed down that we call A and then we place another called B to the right of the A object. Then A will notice that another fence object was created to the right of itself and it would instantiate the horizontal prefab to the right of itself.

I don’t know how you have done the placement and such in your project so it might not work like this but if you know that a fence is colliding with another you could compare positions to figure out on what side the other fence piece is at.

Well, we know nothing about your game or how your world is contructed. Minecraft is a voxel based game. So the whole terrain is based on a 3d grid. The whole terrain mesh (which is split in chunks) is generated procedurally. The connecting fence bars are simply generated for a fence voxel if the neighboring block is solid. So this is an inherent property of the fence voxel when it generates its mesh.

Is your game at least grid based? Note that the fence bars are actually split in half, so they end at the block border So two fences next to each other would connect their fence bars naturally. A fence block does update its state when it receives a block update. In that case it simply scans the 4 neighboring blocks and if they are solid, it generates fence bars on that side.

Hopefully you know that you can not create a Minecraft like game out of individual meshes and gameobjects for each block or even sub blocks. This would result in millions of gameobjects which Unity and your PC can’t handle. You have to create mesh chunks. Of course if you’re not creating a minecraft like game, there may be other solutions, however as I said in the beginning, we know nothing about your game at the moment.

A quick note on your code: Your “FencePosition” enum looks like it’s supposed to be a bit mask but that wouldn’t make much sense since your “Up” entry is 0. At the moment your entries have the values:

As I said that doesn’t make much sense. Either it’s a bitmask, then the first entry has to start with 1, or it’s just a normal enumeration in which case the whole bitshifting doesn’t make much sense. So either define it as

Another thing that seems a bit confusing is your naming of those entries. Is your game 2d or 3d? If it’s 3d (since you said minecraft like) the terms up and down would be ultra confusing if those specify horizontal directions. Terms like left and right depends on the perspective. That’s why using north, east, south and west makes more sense for the horizontal directions and up / down for the vertical. Though, again we simply don’t know enough about your game.

If you want to tame a fox in Minecraft and breed them, here’s how

How to craft a fence in minecraft

Everybody should know how to tame a fox in Minecraft, because. well, why wouldn’t you? They’re cute, cubic little critters that roam the biomes of Minecraft and might have something to offer to the average adventurer, planted right between all the other animals you’ve tamed along the way. In fact, you can even learn how to breed foxes after you’ve tamed them, giving you a whole batch of furry forest dwellers to follow you around. If you’re interested in learning how to tame a fox in Minecraft, read on to find out.

Where to find a Fox in Minecraft

One thing to note about MInecraft foxes is that they’re nocturnal animals, which means that anyone looking to begin their search is going to have to do so when it’s dark. Of course, things get a little more dangerous when you’re around, so newcomers are going to want to make sure that they can fend off something that might want to turn your new pet into dinner before they go fox-searching.

Foxes can be found in taiga biomes at night, usually because they like nesting in leafy forests. You can find foxes in the following taiga biomes: taiga, giant tree taiga, and snow taiga biomes. You can also find them in taiga villages if those are kicking around your world. There’s a small chance for foxes to spawn as cubs, and if you’re in a snow taiga biome, then the foxes will be white instead of the classic russet with white tails.

How to tame a fox in Minecraft

So, night has fallen and you’ve found a fox but they keep scampering away from you. Like other skittish creatures in Minecraft, foxes are a little shy so you have to sneak to approach them. However, an easy way to bridge the gap between humankind and foxkind is to have some Sweet Berry on hand. They love this stuff, so make sure you’ve got a handful before sneaking up to them and interacting with the fox. Little hearts blooming overhead will indicate that they’ve received your gift.

Once you’ve been able to do this enough times – we found that four or so helpings of Sweet Berry did the trick – the happy critter will be tamed and will be your friend. If you feed two foxes in the same vicinity as each other Sweet Berries and tame them both, they have a chance to procreate! Foxes that trust you will also occasionally bring you things that they pick up in their mouths, and though we mostly received feathers, we’re sure that there are other cool items that they can fetch if given the chance.

Bred foxes in Minecraft are automatically tame

Wanting to tame an army of foxes in Minecraft would probably be a bit like chucking Sweet Berries into an animal-shaped vacuum if not for one simple save: any fox cub that’s the product of two tamed foxes will automatically be born tame. That’s right.

You only really have to use those Sweet Berries on the original breeding pair of foxes and once that’s done, their offspring will be automatically tame and warm up to you. We noticed that they were quick to scamper off once the sun rose, so you’re going to want to fence them in if keeping a large fox pack is something that you want to do. Fox cubs will stick close to their parents instead of following the player around, so you don’t have to worry about having a hanger-on while you’re knee-deep in bashing enemies. Foxes that are trusting enough will harm enemies who are harming you, though we would want to leave cubs out of it for now.

Now that you’ve got a better idea of how to tame a fox in Minecraft, all that’s left is to venture forth into the biomes of your choice and to pick up some loyal pets for yourself. Just arm yourself with Sweet Berries, patience, and supplies for some night-time scouting until you find these furry, soon-to-be friends.

How to craft a fence in minecraft
So here’s something. You can hop over a fence or a wall in Minecraft IF its a double wall (or fence) and you place a block on either side of the wall. And animals can’t follow you. Or mobs. (Well, rabbits can make it. And spiders.) This is called a stile.

Definition of “stile”: it’s a step or set of steps that allow you, but not farm animals, to get over fences or walls. You’ll find them in Europe where public walking paths go through farms. I hopped over many when I used to live in England, where right-of-way paths through farms is a thing. Something to do with civilization before cars.

I’ve just started investigating this feature — or is it a bug? — so I don’t know all the ins or outs. If a fence is the upper half of the structure and a wall the lower, you can use slabs and stairs on both sides of the stile. If the upper half is a wall, it seems you need at least one full cube block one side, and on the other you can have a block, slab or stair. If you have double fences, you can’t use slabs or stairs.

See, I made a video about it! It’s on Youtube. And it’s my first video. Say hi if you get there!

    3. How can I lure a Cow(s) into my Farm?

So me & my friend settled in a Village & have built many additions to our settlement, but Cows, Chickens & Pigs (all mobs actually) Spawn a fair distance outside our village. So I fenced off a slightly large area of grass to keep animals, mainly Cows (for milk) & Chickens (for Eggs) but none of them will ever spawn in the Farm or anywhere near our Village. Very recently though a Chicken wandered into our Village & I managed to lock her in my farm. But I really have no idea how to get a Cow in there too, considering they spawn very far away from our village. Anybody know an easy way to make Cows spawn in my Farm or lure them in?

tl;dr I want to spawn trap Cow & Chicken.

They don’t respawn since 1.8. they spawn once, and are gone for good if you kill them. Actually, animals will respawn but it’s such a slow rollover that it’s basically a myth.

You can drag a cow into your pen in a number of ways.

    1. Dig a trench 2 blocks deep and herd them through it
    2. Build a fench and herd them through it
    3. Use a fishing rod and fish them back to the pen

Chickens are much easier, just get a handful of eggs together and start throwing them into a fenced off area. Eventually you’ll spawn some chickens, who will lay more eggs. You can build up your chicken empire from there.

Yeah I don’t want to kill them, I just want their Eggs & Milk, & I tried the fishing rod on a Cow but it just walked off. I’ll try the trench Idea though, thanks for that idea!

The easiest way I’ve found to get livestock into a pen is to do this:

Dig a two-block deep, 4×4 hole near the pen. You want it to be at least three blocks away.
Use whatever means necessary to get the sheep/pig/cow into that hole. Run into it, use a fishing line, bash it with wool, etc.
Fence off the hole, and connect the fence line to the exterior of the existing pen.
Fill in the hole so the animal rises to surface level
Knock out the fence posts between the main pen and the little one
    Push the animal in
    Fix the fence

Pushing them through gates is so much more of a hassle than this. I guess you could also build some stairs over the fence and hope they climb in, but that’s playing to chance.

How to craft a fence in minecraft

Minecraft has grown to become one of the successful sandbox games of all time within the gaming community. The popular video game is among the top-grossing titles and has sold more than 200 million copies worldwide since its release. Of its many features, the game also allows players to construct their own houses from textured blocks in a 3D generated world. Today, we take a look at how you can build your own house in Minecraft.

How to make a House in Minecraft?

Here are the steps you need to follow to build a house in Minecraft:

    Step 1: Construct the floor

The first step is to select a patch of land and dig up the grasses. Now, you can either use wood or any other material such as bedrock and start placing them on the selected patch of land. However, wood is the preferred material when it comes to building floors, especially due to its appearance.

    Step 2: Set the walls

Once your floor is ready, the next step is to create the walls. Just like the floor, you are free to experiment with differing types of materials to build the walls. We recommend using white concrete blocks and set at least four blocks for its height.

While building the walls, make sure that you leave some space in the middle for the door. You can use a dark oak door for this purpose.

Also, make sure to leave at least 2×2 block for the windows. Fill this area with glass so it’s not entirely dark inside. Players can also attach a few torches inside their Minecraft houses for additional lighting.

    Step 3: Create a roof

After you have set the wall on all four sides, you can proceed to build the roof. For the roofing, it is best to use the oak wood planks and cover the entire top layer from end-to-end.

Step 4: Set a bed in the house

The final step is to set a bed inside your house where you can sleep at nights. This is an important step as sleeping in your bed will allow you to set a spawn point, a place where you respawn after you die in the game.

Here’s a complete guide explaining how to craft a Smoker in Minecraft.

How to craft a fence in minecraft

Do you know how to make Smoker in Minecraft? If not then don’t worry. In this guide, we will explain how to craft Smoker in Minecraft with screenshots. Notably, Smoker is one of the most important things that you should have in your inventory. With the help of it, you can easily cook food items in Minecraft, like a furnace. However, a Smoker takes a very little time as compared to a furnace to cook food items.

Without any further ado let’s check out ingredients that you need to make a Smoker in Minecraft.

    • Furnace
    • Logs or Wood

Note: You are not required to gather any specific wood, you can pick up any of the above-mentioned woods.

How to Craft a Smoker in Minecraft?

After gathering the above-mentioned ingredients, you need to follow these steps to craft a Smoker in Minecraft.

    Open the Crafting Menu

First of all, you will have to open your crafting table so that you have the 3×3 crafting grid. Here’s how this will look like.

How to craft a fence in minecraft

    Add Items

In the crafting menu, you will have to locate a crafting area, which is made up of a 3×3 crafting grid. In order to make a Smoker, you need to place 1 furnace and 4 wood, logs or stripped logs in the 3×3 crafting grid.

As we have mentioned above, there is no specific wood is required to proceed with the procedure. While crafting with wood, you can use any type of wood such as oak, spruce, birch, jungle, acacia or dark oak. Here’s will be using oak wood.

How to craft a fence in minecraft

While making a Smoker, make sure the furnace and wood blocks are kept the same way as shown in the above picture.

In the first row, you will have to put 1 oak wood in the middle of the box. In the second row, you will have to keep 1 oak wood in the first box, 1 furnace in the second box and 1 oak wood in the third box. In the third row, there must be 1 oak wood in the middle-box. This is the perfect recipe to craft Smoker in Minecraft.

How to craft a fence in minecraft

Now, as you have filled the crafting area in the right way, the Smoker will appear in the box to the right.

    Move the Smoker to Inventory

Once you are done crafting a Smoker, you will have to move the new item to your inventory. That’s it. Here’s how it will look like.

Congratulations, you have successfully crafted a smoker in Minecraft!

I’ve surrounded a village with a 2-high fence and lit it up with torches, and all was hunky-dory until I heard a zombie trying to tear a door down.

It was just one and I dealt with him quickly, but there was a creeper somewhere in the area of the village too. I placed more torches, made the fence taller near “steps” where one could reach the top with a long jump, and. there was the zombie again the next night.

So, either I must have missed something (I fenced off quite a bit of area – I plan to make the village grow quite a bit) or there’s some obscure spawning rule I don’t know about. How to solve this?

    3 Answers 3

Are all the roofs well lit too? The zombies could be spawning on them and then jump/fall off.

Another options is to install a mod that shows you the locations where mobs can spawn. For example: in Zombe’s modpack there is a mod that does just that (all other mods in the pack can be disabled if you want). I’ve read somewhere that NEI(Not Enough Items) has an option to show the dark spots too.

How to craft a fence in minecraft

Here’s what I do. I go through and make a grid of torches. I generally seperate them with 5 squares. I think you can adjust them out a bit wider, but that’s my preference.

For your fence, go throug, from both sides, and find where you can just jump to make it over the fence. Whereever you’re able to make it with just a jump, and zombie can get through.

How to craft a fence in minecraft

You may have witnessed a Zombie Siege, though a siege usually consists of several zombies.

Zombies can spawn in villages at nights, regardless of light levels or distance to the player. There is no known way to proof a village against a siege without breaking villagers’ routines. You can always block all doors with a block of anything, trapping guys inside, or raise doors above ground, but the villagers won’t be able to enter them either.

The most risky situation is when you are near the village, but not readily available to save the population – whenever you are within 128 meters of a village at night, they are in danger. Sleeping over nights can help, as the world is not simulated while you sleep, it just jumps to the morning for everyone. You also can not replace wooden doors with iron ones, as a house is a wooden door 🙂

    Overview

Minecraft’s most common block is arguably stone. Although it is a very nice block, some prefer a smoother, cleaner texture. This is where one of the oldest blocks in Minecraft comes in, all the way from Minecraft Classic, Smooth Stone. This interesting block has changed throughout the years, along with how it’s crafted and what its purpose is. This will be a brief guide on how to make Smooth Stone so you can get back to making those awesome builds! Let’s get started.

How to craft a fence in minecraft

    How to make Smooth Stone

How to craft a fence in minecraft

Smooth Stone is a variant of Stone that has a much lighter hue of gray, along with a visible outline. Smooth Stone does not have a crafting recipe, but rather is created by placing Stone in the top part of a Furnace. The conversion is 1:1, so you’ll get one Smooth Stone block for every Stone block smelted. That’s all there is to it.

    Smooth Stone Slabs

If you want to craft Smooth Stone Slabs, you will need three Smooth Stone blocks. Then, place them in a Crafting Table in a row, which will give you 6 Smooth Stone Slabs.

Smooth Stone Slabs actually have a unique mechanic that makes it so when placing them ontop of eachother, unlike other slabs, they do not combine to make up a single block. Instead, they create this layered double-slab pattern which some may remember as the original Smooth Stone.

    Mechanics and Extra Info

How to craft a fence in minecraft

Since Smooth Stone is made from Stone, it must be mined with a pickaxe for it to drop. Also, besides crafting, the only way to obtain Smooth Stone is by finding villages and houses.

If you didn’t know, you can also use the Stonecutter on Smooth Stone like any other rock-based block. Sadly, you cannot make Smooth Stone stairs, but you can use this to get a single slab rather than six.

    That’s all, really

Smooth Stone doesn’t really have any uses, but it is moreso a building block. It looks nice and accents buildings very well, as seen in most villages. I hope this brief guide helped you out in your building endeavors, now that you know how to use this neat stoney block. With that said, have a great day.

Home » Guides » Minecraft: How to Breed Horses

The world of Minecraft can be massive and walking around it can take forever. It can also get pretty lonely. Having a horse in Minecraft can help you get around quickly, but if you want to build an army of horses, that’s entirely possible, too. Here’s how to breed horses in Minecraft.

    Breeding Horses in Minecraft

    Step 1: Find Two Horses

First, you’ll need to get two horses. These can normally be found in the Plains biome. The Plains biome in Minecraft is often a large, flat area with green grass. There are a bunch of lakes here, too.

    Step 2: Fence Them In

When you’ve found two horses, build a quick fence around them. They need to be next to one another for the entire breeding process. If you’re struggling to keep them together, use a lead to move one to the other.

    Step 3: Taming the Horses

After fencing the horses in, it’s simply a case of taming them both. This can be done by selecting an empty slot on your hotbar and interacting with the horse. This is done by pressing the following:

    • PS4 – L2
    • Xbox One – LT
    • Nintendo Switch – ZL
    • PC/ Mac (All Versions): Right click on horse

You’ll now hop onto the back of the horse, but only temporarily. The horse will buck you off, and when it does, you’ll need to get back on.

Each time you get back on the horse, you’ll be able to stay on for longer. Eventually, red hearts will appear around the horse and it’ll no longer buck you off. Congratulations, you’ve tamed a horse.

Now do this with the other horse and we’ll almost be ready to breed horses in Minecraft.

    Step 4: Feeding the Horses

To get horses to enter ‘breeding mode’ for want of a better term, you’ll need to feed them particular items. Any of the following food items will work:

    • Golden Apples
    • Enchanted Golden Apples
    • Golden Carrots

You’ll need to make sure you have two of any of these so you can feed one to each of your two horses.

Red hearts will come from each horse after they’ve eaten the apple or carrot. Once they both have these red hearts, they’ll turn around to face one another.

    Step 5: Horse Breeding Complete

After a little bit, the hearts will stop and a smaller horse will appear next to your two horses that you fenced in and fed. Congratulations, you’ve just bred horses in Minecraft.

How to Make a Fence Look Better: Dressing Up Your Ugly Fence

When we moved into our house, it was very clear that the old fence had been installed with just one thing in mind: utility. Let’s not mince words: this fence was just plain ugly and aesthetics were obviously not taken into consideration.

We purchased the house as a bit of a fixer-upper, so it was basically impossible to convince my wife that we should postpone an interior remodeling project and instead, put the money toward installing a new fence. Yet the summer months were rapidly approaching and our family tends to spend a lot of time outdoors, grilling, playing and just enjoying the warm weather. I knew I couldn’t make it through an entire summer looking at that eyesore so I set out on a mission to find ways to improve that awful fence.

It took some hard work, but I was able to transform our fence into something that was actually quite attractive. In fact, I may even allow it to remain standing for a couple more years before we invest in a replacement. So if you’re wondering how to make a fence look better, I have a few answers. It’s all about getting creative and understanding why your fence is so unsightly in the first place.

Refinish the Fence to Create a Cohesive Look

Many ugly fences–mine included–are that way because they have an inconsistent finish or have an overall look that doesn’t fit with the rest of the property. Mine had problems in both areas. The prior homeowner had started stripping the paint off the fence, but only got halfway down one of the three sides. So one portion was bare wood, while the rest was a hideous shade of brown. It appears they tried (and failed) to match the color to the house and shed, but it was about five shades too “orangey.” Instead of creating a look of cohesion, it clashed. Painfully. To make matters worse, the deck was yet another shade of brown.

The wood of the fence was actually in good condition, so I chose to strip off all the old paint (a painstaking process) and then used a long-lasting combination stain and wood sealer to create an even, cohesive look that matched the deck and complemented the house. The right stain can really transform the look of your fence, bringing out the wood grain and natural hues and helping you avoid a structure that looks “too new” and out of place. If you’re stuck on what color to choose, we have some tips on how to choose a stain color for your fence .

Improve Your Fence with New Hardware

The original fencing company had used cheap hardware. What’s worse, they weren’t even consistent, as some hardware had a silver tone, other pieces were golden, and the gate hardware was black. So I set out to install new fencing hardware that wouldn’t corrode away in a couple years, including the bolts, brackets and gate hardware . I was also careful to pick out hardware that would match with the hardware that I’d purchased to build a new pergola . And obviously, make sure you find the right replacement parts for your fence hardware .

I tend to prefer black hardware, as doesn’t look too prominent, especially at a distance, and it gives things a more finished, less industrial, look. So if you feel like your fence “sticks out” too much or looks cheap, black hardware can be a great trick for improving the overall appearance. Painting metal fence posts can also help as well, although you’ll need to choose a metal-friendly paint and you’ll want to be sure to prep the metal before painting. Also, use a bit of sandpaper to scuff up the metal’s surface; this will help the paint adhere more effectively.

How to Make a Fence Look Better with Decorative Additions

Some fences don’t look good because they’re just plain and unfinished looking. This is an area where you can have a bit of fun. Consider these methods for dressing up a fence:

    • Add decorative hardware inserts: These are most commonly used on gates, but you can use them on the fence itself as well. From doggy peek-ports to fleur-de-lis scrolls and star accents, inserts come in lots of different styles, so there’s one to suit your home’s style and your personal aesthetic preferences.
    • Install fence post caps: These are decorative toppers that can be added to the top of wooden or other types of fence posts. Many are wooden in nature, while others are simple metal caps, which serve the dual purpose of adding decoration and protecting the cut end of the wood (which is more prone to deterioration).
    • Add a strip of trellis atop the fence: If you’re feeling “boxed in” and you have a wooden fence, consider cutting down the fence slats (but be sure to leave the fence posts intact!). Then, add a strip of wood trellis atop the fence, replacing the section that you just cut away. This lets you maintain the same fence height while improving visibility and opening up the feel of the yard.
    • Add plantings at the base of the fence: If your grass extends right up to the fence, then a great option is to remove a strip of grass and add in a garden that runs the length of your fencing. In time, plants and shrubbery will conceal portions of the fence, making it largely “disappear.” If you’re impatient and want a more immediate solution, it’s generally best to opt for larger, more mature plantings and shrubs, or fast-growing shrubs like forsythia and evergreen holly.
    • Use hanging plants to disguise the fence: In addition to adding plantings at the base of the fence, you can also use hanging plants to help improve the fence’s appearance from the top down. Ivy or pothos are two common choices, as these plants grow quickly and can be “trained” to grow along the fence.

You can also find (or, if you’re crafty, make) lots of cool outdoor decorative garden hangings, ranging from signs to more sculptural creations. For example, we live near the beach, so my wife found some shells, a couple small buoys, and other miscellaneous beach finds and intertwined them with a fishing net, which she then draped across a section of fence. It was a nice touch.

Don’t let an ugly fence get on your nerves this summer! You want to enjoy your time in the great outdoors because before you know it, the cooler autumn weather will be upon us. If you’re planning on replacing your hardware or need to buy inserts for your fence, I recommend making your way to OZCO Building Products , as you’ll find everything you need to get the job done. And if you’re an avid do-it-yourselfer like me, then you’ll really enjoy OZCO’s DIY project plans, complete with step-by-step directions and supply lists. They’ve got enough project ideas to keep you busy for lots of summers. It’s everything you need to have a fun and productive summer…one that’s free of ugly fences!
